Bike Commuting

I saw that video a little while ago, and it put a smile on my face. I wish more people just tried to give their bike more utility; once you start, you can't stop!

And don't be put off if you need to invest in something like a rack, basket, pannier bag, or trailer. These things are often "buy once, use forever" and save you money over the long term.

As an example, just yesterday I had to pick up two items for my wife. This would have cost around $15 in gas/insurance, but instead, I enjoyed a beautiful few hours on my bike. Do that 10 times, and my pannier is paid for! 😍

The name of the game is carry-shit olympics.

For me it was a massive pile of plant waste on a small trailer, it has fallen over on the first turn but after that it was good to go.

Yes. I put a basket on the back, which gets used all the time. Bike lock. My bag of rain gear or shopping bag. You can chuck in items, such as gloves, without needing to stop. I have an elastic, where one hook is bent closed, so it stays attached all the time. Which let's me carry lots of shopping or awkward items.

For heavier loads, such as beer crates, I attach my trailer. That beats a cargo bike as you don't always want it attached. And its cheap and easy to pack away.

Since getting the trailer, I no longer need to borrow a car. That is such a nice feeling of freedom and independence from high costs, parking problems, needing to plan ahead.
