Dated: 2024-08-03. Added: 2024-08-03. Edit: Gift link added. Edit (2024-08-04): The New York Times altered the title from “Trump Agrees to a Fox News Debate With Harris on Sept. 4” to “Trump Proposes a Fox News Debate With Harris on Sept. 4” to “Trump Cancels a Debate With Harris on ABC News and Pitches One With Fox News Instead”, presumably because the original misleadingly implied agreement with and consent from Kamala Harris for the change in venue (ABC News to Fox News).

a proposal that has not yet been accepted by the Harris campaign.

Not confirmed by the Harris campaign or Fox News at this point. Why are we reporting Trump's garbage social media spew as factual?

You mean the propaganda network who just couple of days ago said “if you are a man who vote for women, you have transitioned into women? IT’S SCIENCE”

WOW, what a great venue for “debate”!

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 36 points 2 months ago (3 children)

It fucking sucks that the Democrats keep bending over backwards for this shitbag. Why does he get to pick the venue?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 80 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

He doesn’t. Harris campaign has not responded. This is just Trump’s wishful thinking.

Edit: Headline misleads with the phrase "agrees to." That suggests that there has been an "agreement" between the two parties. There has not. This is Trump's "proposal."

Trump Proposes a Fox News Debate ...

NYT misleading with headline phrasing????

Nooooooooooo.

Same reason death row inmates get to pick their last supper, I presume

"Man being assassinated drives knife into own stomach"

I bet he can't make himself look good even on home turf at this point.

It's an emotionally stunted narcissist that loves to talk vs a prosecutor. He'll go over time, Kamala will wave her hand a little as if it's cool, she'll get the mic and seek clarification, and when Trump is talking on her time the camera will pan over to her while she's looking through it as if she's on the Office while he spends 2 minutes trying to re-explain 'Black Jobs'

Fox won't do that to him. For every overtime ramble nothing would happen. They'd shorten Harris' response times to make up for it "for the sake of time". And of course no fact checking and lob up easy questions for him with hard convoluted questions for her and no overtime allowed. I wouldn't put it beyond them to interrupt her mid answer or just switch to Trump when he does one of his interruption "tactics".

Trump's whole schtick is to latch onto a red herring and run off deep into left field with it and make that the focal point, but the thing is that he's lately been doing that kind of thing in a really bizarre manner (Hannibal Lector? wtf), so the more he talks, the better for Kamala. He's starting to push it so far it's all falling off the table and instead of just alienating undecides he's starting to alienate moderate supporters. edit: dude has been coming off as 'weird' to his own lately

Maybe but Fox's whole thing has been to amplify "bad takes" and otherwise make unreasonable things sound good from the right wing while posing anything left wing and reasonable as sounding bad.

[–] _bcron@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

True, but at the same time his base has spent the past 5 years hyperfocusing on Biden's age and gaffes. I even know a Trump voter that's going for Kamala this time because she apparently looks like she'd be tougher on crime, and Vance wears makeup (lol). What a time to be alive

The current link is not a gift link.

For a cable network, which by their own admission is an "entertainment" show and no "reasonable viewer" would take them seriously...

Why are they even allowed to host political debates?

[–] Zipitydew@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Same for CNN now too. John Malone is a Trump fan boy.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The DNC desire for “debate” will never be anything but incredible to me. Why? Why, DNC?

“Swing voters”? “Outlining of policies”? “Reasoned discussion”?

Trump has murdered all of these things. In front of your faces. Many times!

Just . . . Don’t.

They still think facts and reason matter more to people than gut feelings and peer pressure.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

They don't understand the modern GQP is very literally a cult, with the attendant cult mindset. "Debate" is just performative vitriol in their eyes.
