The US is also a contender for oldest currently used constitution, depending on a scholarly debate over how to categorize the Constitution of San Marino (1600). Those other countries have had the US to look to as both a trailblazer and a flawed document. If it was being written in the present day, it would almost certainly include more expansive rights.
