A good show will introduce you, one by one, and make it a nice experience.
What sucks is watching (or reading) something halfway into development. Or taking a break during which you forgot all the names and what their roles signify.

Opposite for me, production value is always higher in the first episodes and they haven't yet dragged out the concepts yet
