General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

You know, I read the article and still wondered what FINT was and why they were protesting its connection with the air base. Thank you.

And honestly. She would still have been braver then yourself. Assuming you are significantly younger.

Born around 1934. She was raised in a society way more opposed to nudism then now. The attitudes ment even porn was very limited. No page 3 models. No nude beaches. Not even overt strip clubs in the UK. Any woman taking cloths off in any form of public place would be labeled prostituting.

Had no idea about the US nukes. We're going to be Russia's first target, aren't we :'(

Russia has been banging on about nuking the UK anyway regardless of US nukes on our soil.

All their oligarchs keep buying property in London and thus taking money out of Russia, I'm sure that's part of it.

Nah that's just Russia spreading its tenticles. Years ago Putin implemented a law that said 50% of all oligarch's wealth would be directed by the Kremlin - it was still their money, they get to keep the profits, but Putin dictates how it's spent. If they didn't comply they would likely fall out of a window. Nowadays we have Russian oligarchs investing in all sorts of political activities all over the world, but everyone just acts like it's an individual acting of their own accord and not foreign state interference.

The UK had US nukes at Lakenheath for decades up until 2007. Frankly, I think we've been a lot more vulnerable to Russia since they stopped - if anything removing the nukes coincides with Russia's increased aggression.

Always were. Cambridgeshire houses the US military intelligence headquarters for Europe and the Middle East, while the East Anglian bases are usually where the post-nuclear strike Air Force One backup is parked when their president is in Western Europe. Britain hosts early warning ICBM infrastructure too, and is an essential staging post for any conflict on the continent.
