AFAIK plants don't make THC, but a precursor THCA (1).
That's why a fresh weed smoothy won't give much of a high, but cookies do: it needs to be dried and heated.
Decarbolated is the term. Vape enjoyers can eat the left over already vaped bud because the process heats it enough to decarb it
I'm pretty sure cannabis smoking is relatively recent. Like, hundreds of years ago recent, but I remember hearing cannabis actually started out being consumed orally, I assume in cooking.
EDIT: I have heard both sides and I hate decisions. Cannabis is an illusion. The simulation is over.
