Ask any teacher how they feel about smartphones in their classes. I have teacher friends who work with teenager 15-18 and they are talking about horrible focus and constant distraction. These kids are hooked on their phones like heroin. If the parents don't feel like educating their kids on proper smartphone etiquette, it's up to schools again.

Maybe they need more teachers instead?
Sure we always need more teachers but you can't combat phone addiction with more teachers. If the students are unable to focus enough to read 3 pages they sure as shit will not be able to focus on two teachers. Just as a reminder these kinds are in their last 4 years of school, all of them are here on their own accord. The Matura is not mandatory. All of these kids want to go to universities. This is education for white collar jobs.
Why would the students be unable to focus? They're not allowed to literally stare in their phone during class.
Because their ability to focus is shot to shit by the short dopamine circles tiktop, insta and YT Shorts
That's not going to get much better by disallowing phones in school
I disagree. Any detox is a good start. However, maybe you want to expand on your idea of how more teachers should just make the problem go away? I, and I think the whole world, would love to hear how sb with a bachelor in education should break the addiction circle dreamed up by multi million tech companies. Phones are made to be addictive and the platforms they provide only focus on maximising the engagement time. I'm happy to hear any other option against that circle that doesn't boil down to "Don't engage with them"
Porque no los dos?
Let's do both. Yeah, more teachers are needed and yes, smart phones nmust be banned for younger kids, especially in places like schools. Teach them proper and responsible use
Sure! I'm all for that! The current teacher shortage is a whole other topic tho
I am a bit torn by this idea. Honestly it could be really beneficial. I think it makes more sense then school uniforms maybe?
But also I had a smartphone in school and while it wasn't beneficial for learning it didn't hamper me. Also I liked that freedom.
Nobody had smart phones in schools until literally like 10 years ago and now already kids are acting as if it's a human right and they would die without them.
No it's not, and no you won't. You'll be fine without a smart phone and do I really need to explain that smartphones are huge distractions?
Relax. Your inability to limit your own smartphone usage isn't my problem.
Most jobs nowadays have smartphones integrated into the workflow, even entry jobs.
I had a windows mobile 2003 device and used it under my desk in school. That was quite some time ago.
I get it that kids are distracted and have short attention spans. I suggest we try other solutions.
I am not even opposed to schools without smartphones, but I think that many grown ups project their own frustration with the more addictive parts of new media onto children.
I like how you are accusing sb on their own smartphone usage and then counter with your personal smartphone experience. You do realise both of them have the same weight behind them, right?
And adults are not projecting their own frustration. Children and Teens are missing the critical experience to spot the dark pattern smartphones employ. The adults that speak up against them don't do this out of personal shortcomings but to protect the vulnerable.
Your argument is fundamentally flawed. If an ex-heroin addict tells you don't do H, do you also not take their word because they were just weak and you surely would not get addicted like them?" Get off your high horse and reconsider your position.
Heroin and a smartphone is hardly comparable
Well it's a rather pointed example to get my point across but you may happily replace it with any addiction. Maybe alcohol? Maybe weed? How about sugar?
It's just like a bad habit
Sure buddy. Du hast Recht und ich hab meine Ruh
Leave the kids alone already
