I've been using Nine for a long time but getting somewhat annoyed because it has quite a few bugs and loses changes I make.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Open Source and can be paid, but I definitely don't want a subscription. Sync shouldn't go through 3rd party servers. It needs to support Exchange servers and mail, calendar, tasks sync. UX isn't that important but appreciated, and it really should be stable.

Nothing prevents you from testing IMAP. Nine handles IMAP reliably and stably. IMAP idle also works. Some people around WebDAV are currently working on a push standard, which can hopefully be implemented very soon.
