I am considering taking a leave of absence from uni next year and getting a job so I can properly treat my AuDHD and issues with procrastination and work avoidance. Any job. I don't want to sit at a desk for eight hours, five days a week, but if that's what I have to do, I'll do it. Very sick of being anxious and stressed all the time when I don't have to be. Also the thought of going into a classroom for the next few weeks is making me really anxious to the point where I am about to have a meltdown in front of all those kids.
It sounds like a leave of absence might be a really good choice. Being so perpetually wired up and tense is no good, it doesn't seem like one of those situations where you'll get used to it and adapt, sounds like the path towards burnout instead...
I struggle a lot with procrastination and work avoidance myself, but after many years I've been able to identify what combination of factors work for me. I can say that the uni setting often doesn't work for me. Forcing myself to get through it has been like pulling teeth. So I strongly support you finding out what works for you as well and being gentle with yourself (while trying to survive the capitalist hellscape)!
That sounds like a wise choice. A year out could give you good perspective. When do you have to decide? It could be good to set out a job position before giving notice of leave so you don't cause yourself extra stress and you know what you are going into.
I've still got a couple of months to decide. Thank you for the advice! I'm not sure what I'm after just yet, but am applying to all different things, mostly pen pushing jobs.
