It said technology oriented, self-hosting, privacy stuff and I didn't know any better. It doesn't seem to degrade my experience, I browse what I browse. I haven't bothered to move, mostly out of laziness
Pretty much the same for me. I'm a FLOSS developer and it made sense to join the host closest to the development of Lemmy. I don't really follow any of the more political groups, I'm mostly here for the science, trek and programming memes. I guess I'll have to test the subscription portability if the home server gets more widely de-federated though.

Dessalines himself banned me for a month from several communities (including technology and memes) for very mildly criticizing Chinese government authoritarianism in a comment in the .ml world politics community and that's very typical of ml moderation.
