I think it's just bad lighting and a caveman brow ridge. But also everyone is normally given a bit of makeup when they appear on TV.

Foundation is normal so your skin doesn't look shiny under the bright lights. I have never seen makeup artists apply eyeshadow to men before a TV appearance.
