Well the sound effect itself isn't great, but it's great (imho) to hear the homage whenever it is used:-).

I typically don't want to hear a noise that reminds me I'm watching something.

So if I'm immersed in a story and a sound effect reminds me it's a story, that's a huge negative.

Lighthearted and sillier things it doesn't matter as much as I'm not invested in the same way.

I think you're onto something. Maybe I dislike it because it breaks immersion for me. I hear it and know what it is and am now thinking about the decisions that someone made during production rather than focusing on the story.
