Pretty much also the only way it could potentially not benefit the GoP - Sure, they'd have a martyr, but losing Trump would mean they could lose the hard core trumpers, especially if counter propaganda was spread to imply that the replacement pick was jealous of Trump. Let their conspiracy nonsense make them think the GoP was compromised

Even then, it may still work out for them
