Could be, but it could also be an adoption or a nephew. The most likely explanation is that she was drinking/using during her pregnancy, but there are other alternatives...

No, no; I get it. It's just that I try to encourage people to make positive assumptions about other strangers on the internet, even in a community like c/ImGoingToHellForThis
