For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

When was he an “atheist hero”?

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, please let's not pretend he was that. I dislike such an accusation.

People are saying that didn't happen, but I genuinely remember when I would constantly see sentiment that he would save the human race back in like, 2012?

It was a majority opinion in tech and liberal circles.

Yeah, I remember all that, I just don’t remember him being part of the “new atheist” group that was popular around that time. Mostly it was the cars and “colonizing” Mars…nothing to do at all with religion or lack thereof, really.

I remember having the impression he was an atheist too for some reason, maybe it was some next level PR trying to make him seem like a super logical tech bro with big dreams and the means to achieve them.

Seriously, he at best seemed questionably okay 10+ years ago. Then he turned out to be a giant piece of shit, an unintelligent, horribly cliche villain from an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Fired his P.R. team and went from Tony Stark to a somehow worse Justin Hammer.

He fired his PR yeam years agter he called that diver a pedophile. He's always been like this, there's just no one trying to cover for him anymore.

Before he publicly shared his political views. Redditors used to simp for him.

I definitely remember that, but it was more about saving humanity and being an interplanetary species and stuff. I don’t recall anything specifically referring to his religious/spiritual beliefs or him being an atheist leader, icon, hero, etc, like Dawkins or Harris. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t, I could have missed it, but personally this is the first time I’ve seen him connected to atheism so that’s why I’m a little confused. And sadly I’ve kept a close eye on him over the years because sometimes my job involves interfacing with one of his companies. I don’t love it.
