Real life is a bit more practical.
Good relationship between family and politics is - you do disagree with your family, and you do pick different sides in politics, the more different the better. But in the end the part of the family that supported the winning side pulls up the other part of the family.
It's more of a survival tactic. I'm not sure if you really know how this works.
This goes FAR beyond “different sides in politics.” They are hateful and toxic. And from where I stand, I know plenty enough about how it works to know you have no place telling me how to go about managing the relationships in my life.
So how about you keep your smug, self-righteous judgements to yourself and keep out of the decisions made by others.

Next time, ask yourself that before you think to offer unasked for advice.
