I can’t think of an IP that has carried mediocre devs harder than Pokemon has.
I feel like it is an IP that has always operated with one of them weighted clothing shits Goku or Rock Lee wears.
If they unleashed full potential Pokemon it would be top 5 games. Maybe not anymore but they had over a decade window to do so and never did.
I feel that way only about the fan games tbh, i love the reborn series of games, but high level Pokemon really shows the holes in the system. Gamefreak meanwhile genuinely seems like they are bad at their jobs, and they certainly haven't put effort into it in a long time.
fully agreed played a lot of roms in the day and zeta/omicron were my favorites but they all struggled at high level
Between Game Freak and Niantic, yeah, that's a pretty compelling combo for mediocrity.
