Serious question, how is the recycling I put in my blue bin ending up in the ocean?

It doesn't get recycled domestically so it's got to be shipped somewhere. Not too far to imagine some of it going overboard.

Also much of the “recycled” plastic isn’t recycled, but instead burned or dumped.
