/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable, neither is supporting people who actively want to kill those groups. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

And then there's Admiral Hardass, formerly Captain Hardass.

Is this from some mobile game? Makes me think of Sims 2/4.

Now that I think of it, is there a Star Trek game where you play as a crew member and go about doing daily stuff? Or maybe even manage the entire crew, like lemmings.

No, it's from Star Trek: Prodigy, the best Star Trek show in years.

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Damn, that's a big swing. I think Lower Decks has been one of the best Star Treks of all time. I've only seen a couple episodes of Prodigy so far, so I'll have to catch up.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It takes about half the first season to feel familiar as Trek, so stick it out.

No worries, I'm already on board. I've just been putting off actually watching it because it's impossible to get my partner to watch stuff lol

I liked Astra Lost in Space, and it's giving a lot of the same vibes so far. Voyager for Kids lol

Oof. I hope the plot is better than the animation. But I'm judging solely based on those 2 images.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Janeway was under the effects of a mind swap in the first image. That at least explains the weird pose.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess you haven't watched Lower Decks or Strange New Worlds

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I have. I stand by my statement.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

We can at least all agree that there’s a pretty big gulf in quality between later three NuTrek shows (Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds, and Prodigy) and the first two (Discovery and Picard).

I like the story, but as a kid's show it's a little bit on the "simple solutions always work " side of things. Like the first thing the kids come up with fixes the problem. It'd be like if in the other shows reversing the polarity or shooting tachyon beams worked right away, rather than being the first failed idea in the problem-solving process.

Also a lot of science ex machina going on.

I liked Disco, I love SNW and Lower Decks, and I’d agree that Prodigy is somehow still the best Trek of the current era. It’s actually amazing when I think about it.

“But it’s just a cartoon for kids”

And yet. Here we are.
