You also need a high temperature ignition source. Trivial for the military ofc. One of the bonuses in that it is extremely stable/safe unless successfully ignited which is not easy to do. An aluminum can filled with rust flakes lit by a burning magnesium strip will penetrate an engine block. Amazing stuff. Chemistry teacher used it as a demo in class one day. The minuscule amount he used burnt through the metal tray and molten balls of iron splashed outwards across the entire linoleum floor leaving burn damage everywhere. Lucky nobody was hurt, the Janitors were not happy I'm sure. 😂
