Titan A.E. is a 2000 American animated science fiction action-adventure film directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, and starring Matt Damon, Bill Pullman, John Leguizamo, Nathan Lane, Janeane Garofalo and Drew Barrymore. Its title refers to the spacecraft central to the plot with A.E. meaning "After Earth". The animation of the film combines traditional hand-drawn created animation with the extensive use of computer-generated imagery.

Good find! I always loved the art style of the animation on this one.

Excellent! Do you dig Don Bluth's other films too?

I must be the only one who thinks the way the cel animation and CGI are inter-mixed is a little off putting. All good though, the story and the acting here are really good.

Absolutely, I consider Bluth's The Secret of NIMH to be an absolute masterpiece (also recommend the book it was based on, btw. Goes in a very different direction, and was compelling even as an adult).

I can see how it might not be to everyone's taste, but this and Treasure Planet I think really nailed the mix of 2D with 3D (treasure planet did it a bit more elegantly, though).

One style of animation that I do find unpleasant is the earlier fully 3D stuff that lives in the uncanny valley, like the first few Final Fantasy movies. Though weirdly I find the even older and more primitive 3D style reminiscent of old MTV music videos, like Reboot to be somewhat charming.
