Fire and Blood
It's a prequel to Game of Thrones and details the rise of the Targaryen dynasty and some of the history of Westeros. Also, unlike GoT, it has a lot of fantastic illustrations too.
It's different from GoT in that it's written as a history book, parts of which told through various maesters and parts told through a fool who served the Targaryens by the name of Mushroom.
I LOVE it.
Oh I was totally not up to date lol, thank you. Love me some fantasy illustrations, I might check it out
