Geothermal energy only works in areas where you don't have tectonic shifts and lasers which can melt rock use a lot of energy (but also you don't break drills, which frequently happens for regular boring).

So basically, you have the same problems you have with regular geothermal energy, just with lasers. I don't see why it wouldn't work at all, it's just not as revolutionary as they claim and will not work 'all over the world'.
