I'm fairly new to piracy overall, but I feel like I understand the basics of how to avoid my ISP and such. A family member who's in college texted me the other day asking how she could pirate textbooks and I realized I'd never thought about it. Any tips for pirating textbooks? Safe sites?

Hi everyone,

With all of the rising subscription prices, I am hoping to get some advice on the best Android device that will allow me to use the greatest number of streaming app (e.g, NewPipe, Stremio, Spotify apk, etc)

My nice-to-haves would be a device with a large screen (6.7 inches+), ease of installing apps, and durability. I used to have Samsung phones before which would be super laggy within 3 years of purchase, which I do not get with my current iPhone.

I am considering OnePlus and Pixels but am open to any suggestions!

RWBY all seasons (lemmy.world)

Hey guys, first post on this community.

I'm looking for a way to "download" all seasons of RWBY somewhere. I can source some of the more recent episodes, but not the older ones.

Anyone who could aid in this venture I would greatly appreciate it!

I have downloaded version 17.2 that works fine. However, versions 18.0, 18.1.2, 18.1.3, and 18.5 all close when starting up.

I'll add that the 18x versions were downloaded from audionews while the 17x version was downloaded from IPT.

Anybody know of a verifiably working 18x version for windows 11?

singlelogin.me and all custom URL seem to be taken down by the FBI. I haven't read anything about the new bust, but also not anything about new URLs or anything like that. Does anyone have any information?

Have you seen this leak? Discovered it today by accident when I tried to find an OSS clone for this game.

To be clear, I have no problem buying ebooks and do so quite often. But where I live its often hard to find ebooks in my preferred language without resorting to Am*zon, especially when it comes to the more obscure titles.

Now that Zlibrary is gone, where do people go for liberated ebooks?

Are there any privacy benefits to hosting a DNS server on a VPS that you can then use as your DNS server on your mobile devices?

My thoughts are that it would bypass using your telecom’s dns or Google/Apple or even your VPNs DNS. In addition you can set it up to block trackers and ads, which is often hard to block natively on a phone system-wide.

To take it a step further, you could run the VPS through a paid VPN in addition to using it as a DNS.

What do you think? Has anybody tried this before and if so, got any tips?

Basically what the title says, after getting so much of it I might end up contributing, but I want to do it safely.

I'm mainly only using it for p2p, everything else is secondary. Portforwarding is necessary though.

Edit: Decided on AirVPN. It wasn't too pricy, only 2 dollars above my current Usenet + Indexer plan.

I'm in a dilemma, I think ownership of media is important, but the convenience of Spotify and the algorithm of new music that it suggests has helped me find amazing artists that I wouldn't have heard of otherwise.

Fellow sailors, what are your thoughts, and how do you personally listen to music?

I've sailed the high seas for a while starting with Emule, through MIRC, torrenting, mega(upload) and many more.

Lately I've been using a p4s service on plex but they kept having issues so I stopped it. I don't mind paying but I want

  • the latest episodes of my content as it comes out
  • great quality with little to no compression
  • english subtitles, original voice (whether english, japanese...)
  • 100% uptime.

I'm assuming my p4s service was not downloading new episodes by hand, so there must a (set of) OSS software to automatically download new episodes of a predefined set of TV shows / anime, add subtitles, and make it available as a plex server or similar no? I'm a software developer so not affraid to run a few docker containers on a local server

Just a PSA that I2P exists if you want to try out anonymous torrenting. Head over to I2P for questions on how to set it up.

I won't answer questions that could get me into legal trouble, but I'd be happy to help with more generic I2P things.

Hey, A few years ago when I had no money for Spotify or YT Music I almost exclusively got my music from freealbums.org Yesterday, just out of curiosity, I wanted to visit the site again, just to find out it went down. It doesn't really surprise me much, considering the recent takedowns we pirates had to endure. Does anyone also used that site and knows of an alternative? I really liked using it back then, because it had Direct Downloads, super fast releases (I remember getting a new album a few days before you could buy physical or digital copies xD) and also a rather good UI.

Reading https://overengineer.dev/blog/2019/04/08/very-precarious-narrative.html explains vulnerabilities to VPNs. I was aware of several of them, but some I wasn't.

Are VPNs still useful for torrenting?
