Hello! I just got to HK in March, I have basic mandarin background and is looking to enroll in Cantonese language centers (because somehow I fall asleep with online videos help). I was also thinking this may be a good opportunity to help me connect with people here since I have no friends physically here. Any recommendations on a good language center, and est. how much would it cost? Thank you!

Hi, I’m an originally English speaker and I want to learn Cantonese although currently I’m just getting basics down on YouTube but does anyone know any good men that teacher the language? I’m promise it’s nothing to do with being sexist, but as the language is quite different from english I would rather be taught by a man to avoid sounding like a woman or feminine.

There's a Cantonese Discord with around 1k members and offers weekly Cantonese lessons, there are 2 teachers who are from Hong Kong and speak fluent Cantonese

Does anyone where I can find Winx Club dubbed in Cantonese? (preferably free online)

There is a Chinese Winx Channel but it's only the Mandarin dub https://www.youtube.com/@WinxClubCN/videos

There's seems to have once existed a playlist with season 1 but it was deleted https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe5horJerMnq9zaBzfgJV-M91VeoE_ser

Hey y'all,

I strongly want to learn Cantonese at some point. But ideally, this year, I would focus on my career more and learn Cantonese down the road.

However, I'm in the U.S. and lucky to have a community college in my region that has four affordable Cantonese courses, which are beginner 1, beginner 2, intermediate 1 and intermediate 2. Each is a semester long.

Moreover, the community college is cutting a lot of classes, so it might not teach Cantonese anymore in the coming years. And more importantly, I'm tempted to sign up to capitalize on a cheap, structured Cantonese class, especially given how difficult it seems to find structured affordable Cantonese courses — and how tough it seems to find a good course online.

However, I would only be able to take one semester before I leave the region.

So, here's the question:

Would taking a semester of a Cantonese class as a jumping point give me a substantial leg up if I were to continue learning it via less structured resources online? Or would it not achieve much that I couldn't do online?

For example, would having a one-semester foundation in a Cantonese class be a substantial boost in helping me learn the rest via Pimsleur, online tutors and iTalki?

I appreciate any time any of y'all provide. Thank you in advance.

Hi all,

I've just started to learn Cantonese because my boyfriend is Chinese (1st generation Aussie) and him and his family speak it. Now obviously he will learn but I'm struggling to find resources online or apps. I have learnt Japanese before and the resources seemed endless, Cantonese is a different story. Any advice?

What is the best way to say “he is allergic to dairy” my dad is and I know dairy isn’t that prevalent but I know he’d like to know his son is looking out for him I get conflicting ways from my language learning app and from piecing it together with a dictionary

Watching a documentary 4mo old brought to YouTube by CNA insider and was wondering if this “laying flat” is a prevelent thing… someone in the comments mentioned this social phenomena exists in Indonesia as well under a different name. -I’m just curious… shifts in culture being given names seems so unique to East Asia…

I just want to know because most of my family is Cantonese and sense I never grew up with Cantonese friends or tv shows and my parents never really taught me I can only say a few words. I want to learn independently so I can surprise them for lunar new year, any suggestions?

Top 10000 characters in terms of frequency of use in Mandarin. https://lingua.mtsu.edu/chinese-computing/statistics/char/list.php?Which=CL

Would only want top 1000 or so maybe just so I can go hard and memorize using flashcards on Pleco
