Initially I didn't like Fedora Flatpaks, but they have grown on me. What I really like about them is how they are built directly from Fedora RPMs.

Unlike Flathub, they don't pull and build dependencies directly off the internet (which may not get timely updates). Instead those dependencies come from Fedora's repos.

The way Fedora Flatpaks get built are also much more consistent since they just use Fedora's infrastructure. Meanwhile flatpaks on Flathub may be repackaged Appimages, snaps, tar.gzs, built from source, etc.

Though there is the obvious downside of Fedora Flatpaks which is missing media codecs. So if an app needs codecs, I just end up using Flathub versions. And Flathub for whatever isn't in the Fedora Flatpaks repo.

Hey, folks, I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I have a laptop that has been messed up for a while, and I just got it repaired. I was using as basically a desktop, external monitor, mouse, keyboard. I just got it repaired and would like to use it as a laptop again. My problem is that something like 2 years ago, I edited some setting so that I could close the lid of the laptop and it wouldn't suspend, but I can't remember how I did it, and now it won't suspend when I close it, which is less than convenient for use as a laptop.

I googled, but it's not in GNOME tweaks anymore, and I'm not sure how to do any of the stuff I see people posting about terminal commands. I can follow instructions for command line stuff, but I sort of need it spelled out for me from step 1.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello all, basically the title... I just want to be sure so that there are no issues. It is one of the newer ones that have the kernel modules open source.

If I have to ill wipe and rebuild, but I thought it might be an interesting experiment to convert it and see how well it goes...

Is it likely to be a significant undertaking? Or just a few commands ?

Looks like a pretty stable supplement

I installed a GRUB theme and changed some options in the config but now I need to run update-grub (alias for grub2-mkconfig -o /etc/grub2-efi.cfg) after every kernel update or else that new kernel version won't boot. Does anybody know a fix for this?

Hi all,

Edit: I use the KDE spin of Fedora 40 (updated after I posted this) and have a Windows 10 partition. However, I am not able to boot into Windows as it doesn't show up in GRUB.

I've been encountering some frustrating issues with my Fedora Linux installation and I'm hoping someone here might be able to offer some guidance or solutions. I'm gonna post them all in this thread - please tell me if I should break each issue into individual

  1. Time Setting: I've noticed that my system time doesn't seem to be setting correctly, even when I have automatic time synchronization enabled. The time in my BIOS is correct. Even when I try to set the time manually, it reverts back to the wrong settings.

  2. Persistent Wi-Fi Password Prompts: Despite having saved my Wi-Fi password in the connection settings within KDE, I'm constantly being asked to re-enter it every time I connect. It's a bit of a hassle, My credentials are saved.

  3. Browser Rendering Issues: When using both Chrome and Firefox on Fedora, I've noticed that certain websites, like Arduino.cc, don't load images or schematics properly. For example, when I try to access https://docs.arduino.cc/built-in-examples/basics/Blink/ the images fail to load. Strangely, I don't encounter this problem when using the same browsers on my Windows desktop. I have also tried to start Firefox in "fail safe" mode without addons enable but it does not make solve the issue.

  4. Dual Boot Trouble: During the installation process, I managed to break my dual boot to Windows, which didn't happen when I initially tried out Linux Mint. The Linux Mint installer automatically managed to make my system dual boot through GRUB. However, I probably messed up in the Fedora installation process, and now I don't know how to fix it.

  5. Driver Discovery: Despite enabling RPM Fusion for the Nvidia Driver, I cannot find the driver in the Discover app. Is there a step I might be missing, or a different approach I should take to locate and install the Nvidia driver?

My hwinfo, using hwinfo --short:, removed keyboard, mouse etc.

I've been using Arch as a daily driver for years and love it's customization level, then I realized I just want an OS that works. I need tips, advice, or even warnings before moving.

Maybe some of you already had the problem: mesa-freeworld from RPM-Fusion can be out of sync with the standard mesa packages.
Once this led to a black screen after reboot for me.

So, I decided to create a metapackage which pins the versions of all mesa dependencies to be compatible with mesa-freeworld.
I published a Copr Repo with it, in case others think it is useful.

Title says it all. I changed my btrfs subvol names so I could use timeshift to manage my snapshots, after regenerating the initramfs and editing grub to point to the new subvol names all was fine however after I got a kernel upgrade recently, the latest grub entry for the kernel specifies the old subvol name, resulting in a failed boot. I dont know grub well enough to know what options to add to /etc/default/grub, or even if thats where I need to add it. After editing the entry manually it boots perfectly fine so theres my question. Is there a grub config option to specify the name for a subvolume to boot? I'd rather not manually edit grub.cfg every time theres a kernel update lol.

  1. Does Silverblue being immutable has an effect on security, or is it more about stability and reliability?

  2. Is it possible to have Nvidia drivers with Secure Boot on Silverblue, and how?

Thanks a lot!

Is fedora coreos the right one? It mainly reads as if it was for clusters of servers or something like that.

So happy to announce that finally, Swayora reached a usable state.
Keep in mind, that I was working on the installer more than the sway configuration itself.
So, keep checking it out for updates 😉

I'm on fedora Silverblue and just saw that firefox is still on 118 whereas 120 is about to be released.

I found https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/firefox which says that on fedora 39 firefox is on 119 yet it isn't on my machine.

Hello!, i was thinking about running deduplication on my system to save some space, and wanted to know if Fedora already runs it in background, or if the function is enabled on OStree spin? Thanks!

Why should we install wordpress using dnf install wordpress rather than just downloading the files? is it because those PHP file won't work due to SELinux, or is it something else?

Also, if I am importing NGINX config files and database backups (made using msqldump) from another server, do I have to do something with them before they can work?

Another thing that I have seen is that in the nginx.conf file in Fedora, the user is set to nginx, while on other operating systems it is set to www-data by default. Why is that?

I am asking this because I want to migrate from a Debian server to a Fedora Server (preferably on ARM).
