Schleswig-Holstein, one of Germany’s 16 states, on Wednesday confirmed plans to move tens of thousands of systems from Microsoft Windows to Linux. The announcement follows previously established plans to migrate the state government off Microsoft Office in favor of open source LibreOffice.

As per one of the creators over on Reddit:

"I’m Amber, one of the founders of Griply: a goal-setting app proudly built in the Netherlands by a small self-funded team of four.

We created Griply out of frustration with how scattered personal development tools were. One app for goals, another for tasks, another for habits… it just didn’t make sense. So we built one app that brings it all together.

A lot of our users have switched from their “regular” task manager because they wanted something more goal focused - not just for ticking off tasks - but for making real progress on what matters to them.

With Griply, you can:

  • Set life goals and break them down into subgoals, habits & tasks -Make goals measurable with goal metrics (money, distance, weight, etc.) -Track your progress visually with charts -Organize by life area, priority, or type -Manage your daily tasks like any other task manager -Add widgets for your goals, habits, and tasks to your home screen -Use it across iOS, Mac, Windows & Web

We’re building this with a lot of passion. If you’re into productivity, self-improvement, or just love trying out European-made tools, we’d love for you to check it out. Any feedback is welcome."

An Android app is coming soon, and is in development. There's a signup on their website if you want to be notified when it's released.

We had this post a couple of days ago and people were discussing the technical specs of the cable: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/24120349

Seems like it actually is not too good and it may be better to choose one of those recommended here: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/22937894

So, as a proud European, I enjoy my ability to speak multiple languages, and there are two thing GBoard does well:

  • Word suggestions in multiple languages - it is common for me to switch between my native language, Portuguese, and English, so when writing, GBoard fetches words to fill what I'm currently writing from both dictionaries, not just the one that is active.
  • Japanese in a QWERTY layout - when I need to write in Japanese, I can switch the language to Japanese with QWERTY, so that when I write "ka", it shows "か"

I've tried a bunch of keyboards, but they either miss one or the other feature. Do you guys know of an alternative? Thanks in advance!

Coming from the post about Ukrainian knives I would like to have a post similar to the Jeans post the other day.

Outdoor knives are more of a niche topic, but it plays well with some of my outdoor hobbies and knowing your options is also fun, so please keep em coming.

Looking for any Digikey (Electronic Components) alternative in Europe that is not Mauser.
I already know and buy from Mauser but would like other options.
For now I'm buying from AliExpress but would love a fully European supplier.

Thank you in advance for any answers.

I know it's a niche topic, but for those of you into bushcraft, hiking, knives and things, take a look at the Ukrainian BPS Knives

https://bpsknives.com/

Mine in the picture is a 1066 carbon, full flat grind, 245 mm total length, 227 g including a very good leather sheath, and costed about 50 €. Egg for scale.

Greetings, everyone - Europeans, Canadians, British, Mexicans, anyone fighting to strenghten their own economies and their allied nations.

Forgive me for the obvious statements, but saying them out loud is never too much, whether for reinforcing them, or for anyone who hasn't considered them fully yet.

The reason to say this is because despite talking a big game, and fully meaning it, the fact is that Trump's US quickly falls back when they see us get together and retailiate. See how he was playing the game of "tariff, no tariff" with Canada. And how Canada was mostly spared this round of tariffs. This was not motivated by acts of kindness towards Canadians. It's a strategic move to buy time. Canada did as the US asked and greatly invested in border security, reducing fentanyl crossings to near zero - Trump's dismissive verdict after that: "there's still huge amounts of fentanyl coming from Canada so they'll get tariffs". Heck, even the EU got a 20% tariff, which is already lower than I personally expected to see. There's no winning or appeasing, obviously.

Don't let this be a temporary fad, in any nation now affected by the US bullying. It's not about what is currently happening, but that it can even happen at all. And if it happened now, even if the US stopped and we all collectivelly just said "let bygones be bygones" and went to business as usual, this can happen again in the future. Later in your life, or with your kids, or their kids.

More than anything it's in great part due to a cultural mindset. Of thinking that one nation is above others and using that mentality to create havoc. Trump may be getting old, but there's a whole army of people with his mindset already lined up for when he's gone. And in a culture that encourages such a mindset in the people seeking power. And we Europeans should know very well, as we have our own grim past with such tendencies, and vowed to be better from then on.

It's true most of us have been very complacent with the US - why fix what's not broken, after all? We all (including the US) have benefitted for years from this alliance of shared interest. And many times we put our own independency in second place in favor of US influence, from not investing in our security because they also wanted to secure bases and power in Europe and other parts of the globe, to not developing our own tech more than needed, and widely adopting their tech and culture into our daily lives.

The ironic thing is with how much we've allowed ourselves to be at the mercy of another people's vote. We don't get a say in who runs the US, and yet we're affected nonetheless by their leadership decisions. Don't get complacent. Be willing to aid others, but still be independent enough to thrive when others threaten you.

We must all stand together. Buy locally, then nationally, then from your allies, avoid empowering economies who want to see yours fail. Elect leaders who reinforce your sovereignty.

This is not a fad, but a new way of life. Don't let anyone (be it Russia, or the US, or China, or anyone else) divide you from other genuine allies just because they're not hitting you as bad as everyone else at one given time - because that will not last against bullies. Stand strong.

Apologies for the long rant. With kindness from the small Azorean islands.

Feuerwear makes a series of bags and backpacks out of old firehose. I got one of their laptop bags since last year and I absolutely love it! They also offer a repair service and give a 3-year warranty on their products.

As far as I can tell from their website, some steps of the production are done in Germany and some (mostly sewing) is done in Serbia.

Referreral code warning
I got a code that gives a 10€ reduction for new customers (and gives me the same if it's used). I'm not sure if the code can be used repeatedly, so no guarantee that it works.

Coming from reddit, just realizing how many European brands we got. I would almost say the market is saturated quite hard, but there is plenty of choice in style and cut.

I need to skim the original post and search for already given lists for further entries, also I need to add countries in a later edit. Be aware, country of origin does not mean country of production.

Like the Titel states:

Need a replacement from Europe.

  • mineral powder
  • Fundation

What’s your recommendation?

I think it would be great if we can find a common motto for BuyFromEU like the "Elbows up" of Canadian.

I propose something in Latin because English is the official language of only two countries of EU (Ireland and Malta), but the majority of European languages are fully or partially derivate from Latin.

In addition this will show strong opposition to US language.

My personal proposition is : "Et vales, valeo" (When you are strong, I'm strong)

Please propose your motto and let's make the most upvote comment become the motto of our movement

Creator: https://old.reddit.com/r/BuyFromEU/comments/1jp5y0p/i_made_an_app_to_scan_barcode_and_get_the_true/

I have created an app that allows to scan barcode and get the origin of the brands (with information about parent holding company if any). It also suggest EU alternatives for the product scanned.

There is already more than 1.1m product in the databases and 140k brands (out of ~150k) analyzed. The analysis is made by automatic crawlers, so there might get issue regarding that, do not hesitate to report it. Data are coming from the great OpenFoodFacts database.

Play Store (Android): Productr

Currently there is no iOS one, ~~I might create one if people are interested in the app (as App Store pricing is high, I prefer to check if people like the app before paying the fee)~~. EDIT: As a few people is requesting it and are interested, I will proceed to App Store submission for iOS version and pay the required fee. I will keep people informed about that. It should take a few days, the time I get a mac, release app and going through the validation process of Apple (it takes 48hr according to internet, so let's see if it's that fast).

I will publish a web version soon that will allow to use the app without installing it (either android or iOS).

Enjoy ! 🇪🇺

EDIT: Some more information. Cosmetic products are also available on it, but database is quite limited currently and brand crawling has just started. I plan to expand database in upcoming days.

Pet food products should be added soon too

As for TV there is for example arte.tv , a french-german TV channel, which often has good documentaries

Can you recommend any movies, series and TV streams that are lesser known?

Hello. As the title says, do you know some Authenticator alternatives? I've found out Aegis and Bitwarden authenticators so far, even if they're not European alternatives, they're still FOSS though.

I'd like to know what your opinion?
