It was an imposing brutalist building on a hill built as the headquarters for Burroughs Wellcome. I drove by every day for years and had friends who worked there. It was even featured in the movie Brainstorm with Christopher Walken.

Sadly, after Glaxo bought Burroughs Wellcome, the building was neglected and abandon. It was finally sold to another company under the pretence of salvaging some of it. But the entire building was demolished in 2020. The property is still vacant today.

Completed in 2021, the Daniel Moynihan Train Hall expanded the existing Penn Station with a 255,000-square-foot, modern rail hub inside the Beaux-Arts Farley Building. Even on a grey day, it seemed magical the first time I arrived there via train.

Constructed for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1911, the station was electrified in 1935 and many original details remain, thankfully.

Completed on April 27, 1897, Grant's Tomb honors life and service of Ulysses S. Grant. It feels like a somewhat forgotten landmark in Riverside Park when you visit today, however upon its opening one million people attended the dedication ceremony. The interior features intricate mosaic work depicting scenes from General Grant's military career and United States Presidency. The memorial was designed by architect John Duncan.

Believe it or not, the short 10-story beaux arts building is connected to the 39-story tower
