I propose that we coordinate a mass mailing campaign of letters to the white house telling trump that we do not approve and that he can go fuck himself. Obviously he doesn't actually receive these letters, but a big surge of complaint letters could get news coverage and he hates negative news. It will also undermine the delusions he's trying to promote that the low approval rating is only due to biased pollsters.

As many of you are aware, there was a bunch of drama on r/50501 related to the originator, Evolved_Fungi. I can't hash out the details because I don't know them. I can't say I agree with some of the mentality that certain people in the movement have about discussing the issue: I think open discussion, to a point, should be tolerated and even encouraged.

To keep that discussion from overwhelming other, more productive discussion as we move forward, I'm going to limit it to this megathread. Please keep all discussion about the controversy/drama regarding r/50501 and Evolved_Fungi in this thread.

Considering how the movement is under attack on other platforms it is likely to be a more challenging task than moderating some other forums out there, but it's an opportunity to make a real contribution. :)

It seems the 50501 movement is facing some predictable problems on commercial platforms.

On Reddit, the 50501 subreddit has temporarily shut down over abuse. This comes after reports from users that the community is "obviously being astroturfed". No word as to when it will be back online.

It seems things are not much better over at Facebook, where there is apparently frequent calls to stop protesting this and that, with a Reddit user commenting that the group "feels like it's imploding".

This is hardly surprising given how commercial social media has repeatedly shown itself to be easily manipulated, but it's still fascinating that it's bad enough to shut down the whole Reddit community. Although we are certainly in a better place over here we are not immune: Make sure to be vigilant and to report suspicious activity.

If anyone is on Facebook, maybe now is a good time to give people there a few pointers towards Lemmy/PieFed.

We have reason to believe that events on 4/19 and/or the 50501 Movement may be misrepresented by the Trump Administration in an attempt to justify the use of military force.

Let us be clear: our movement is pro-democracy and firmly grounded in non-violence. We are not affiliated with any so-called “Day of Rage” or with any group or movement promoting violence.

April 19 is a Day of (Community) Action centered on mutual aid, community care, and civic engagement.

Any portrayal to the contrary is a deliberate distortion intended to undermine our message and suppress our broad, growing support.

We are aware of specific and credible threats involving aggressive policing, ICE presence, and even the potential deployment of military force against peaceful demonstrators—in Washington, D.C. and other locations on April 19.

For clarity: 50501 DC is hosting a peaceful community aid event in Franklin Park. We are not connected to any actions taking place at Lafayette Square, the Naval Observatory Building, or the Washington Monument. We cannot vouch for their safety of plan, and we are not affiliated with their protests.

Participants should be prepared for an increased law enforcement presence. In some locations, ICE agents may also be present. We urge everyone to stay grounded, remain peaceful, and prioritize de-escalation and safety for all.

Remember, de-escalation, mutual care, and disciplined non-violence are our greatest strengths.
