This MR just got merged: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/19125

Which completes the tearing protocol: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/65

So once the mesa update lands, XWayland titles should be able to tear under Wayland, at least on AMD GPUs. Nvidia will have to provide support in their drivers in the future.

That's weird, I'm also using KDE with a 3080 on Arch, and never had that problem. Maybe it's card dependent?

I can't wait for the forced VSync fix (it sadly didn't make it into this release, but will apparently be in the next one) and the wayland tearing protocol implementation, which has also seen quite a lot of activity recently.

Hopefully Wayland will be viable as a daily driver on Nvidia hardware soon.

  • This fixes a problem when Flatpak is installed that caused the installer to place the nvidia-settings.desktop file in /root/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/applications.
  • Changed the behavior of glXGetRefreshRateSGI() for non-integer refresh rates to round to the nearest whole number rather than truncating.
  • Changed the compression format of the .run installer package from xz to zstd. This results in a smaller compressed package, and faster decompression performance.
