Does the crew die the moment the explosive penetrates the hull or are they being burned alive? If so that is not a fate I wish to barely anyone
Depends on where the tank is hit. Russian tanks are crewed by 3 people. The gunner, commander and driver. The commander and gunner sit side by side in the turret. That's the hatches the drone attacked in the video. The driver is right in front of the turret.
Antiarmor charges are designed to focus all of the energy of the explosive on a very small area. This punches a hole through the armor. The armor material from the hole is turned into hot shrapnel sprayed across the inside of the tank.
The fires are caused by the hot shrapnel catching something flammable on fire inside the tank. So it's common, but doesn't always happen.
The ammo storage is directly below the commander and gunner. So targeting the hatches on the turret, can kill the commander and gunner and possibly set off the ammo.
