Welcome to Cassette Futurism Lemmy and Mbin Community.

A place to share and discuss Cassette Futurism: media where the technology closely matches the computers and technology of the 70s and 80s.

Whether it's bright colors and geometric shapes, the tendency towards stark plainness, or the the lack of powerful computers and cell phones, Cassette Futurism includes: Cassettes, ROM chips, CRT displays, computers reminiscent of microcomputers like the Commodore 64, freestanding hi-fi systems, small LCD displays, and other analog technologies.

AI has ruined my brain. Instead of simply enjoying the wacky art, my mind just keeps checking if it's real or not.

New community idea: AI or Japan?

Amazing Idea!

That’s what they want you to believe.

Definitely one of the helmets of all time. This gives a very "designed in the 1970s" vibe. Lots of organic curves and untextured fiberglass/plastic. Not enough fins or ribs to be from the 80s, but too much white for the 60s.

At the time I'm reading this the title notes that this design is from 1985. Here's an article I came across with more info.

Honestly that's older than I was expecting. But the 80s does make sense, a lot closer to the 70s than the 2010s year I was expecting.

I can dig it.

Does anyone else wish they had that couch in 2020?

[–] tostiman@sh.itjust.works 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

What couch? Did you lose your mind?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Fine, loveseat. Whatever the official term is.

I guess it could be a love seat if you're extremely flexible and have excellent balance 🤷

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I don’t think that means what you think it means.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It does and it doesn't. I know that there's a type of furniture called a loveseat, but I'm choosing to interpret the phrase otherwise for the sake of humor 😉

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Any seat can be a love seat if you try hard enough.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

My point exactly 😁

Motorcycle, but yes absolutely.
