I'm NOT watching the fight cause I refuse to give attention and money to a convicted rapist and an influencer creep

[–] hellfire103@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I was not aware about Tyson being a rapist. Thanks for bringing this up. Damn them both.

It happened so long ago, I forget many people weren't around. I thought it was common knowledge. I think it was the movie the hangover which started turning him into a meme and caused people to transfer that into actually liking Tyson. He's an idiot at best, a rapist at worst.

Most fucked up part of the article, Tyson speaking about his victim:

"I just hate her guts,” he said of Washington in 2003. “She put me in that state, where I don’t know. I really wish I did now. But now I really do want to rape her.”

Tyson has also been quoted as saying he did “four or five things worse than what I’m accused of”. To eliminate any potential uncertainty – four or five things worse than rape.

Well this just about aged like fine milk. Far from beating Jake to a pulp, Tyson threw just 18 punches the entire fight. Though I suppose it's inevitable when Tyson is more than double Jake's age and he retired years ago

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Isn't this what basically half of people expected to happen? It was an exhibition, not a fight.

[–] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Oh, I'm not surprised at the outcome, I expected the almost 60 y/o man to lose to the under 30 y/o man, but was just surprised to see the stats on just how little Tyson actually did in the fight.

I haven't kept up with his stuff but according to some article I read, he's been essentially crippled for a few years now? Like had to be in a wheelchair 2 years ago, then vomited so much blood at one point that the fight was pushed by 6 months... He's not healthy for an 80 year old, much less 58.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

As much as I'd love to watch Jake Paul having to spit out all of his stupid teeth, I'm not paying those people fucking money.

[–] Fuzzy_Red_Panda@lemm.ee 15 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Love the meme but hate the sport. The whole thing revolves around two people hurting each other and causing brain damage in the process. That’s not entertaining to me, that’s horrifying.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 points 6 days ago

I wouldn't worry because anybody that called this event "boxing" also hates the sport...

[–] CasualPenguin@reddthat.com 6 points 6 days ago

They're both trump supporters, so don't feel, the brain damage was a pre existing condition

[–] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Nah, Jake Paul getting facefisted is the only reason I'd watch this shit.

But this has shenanigans written all over it, so I'm not gonna give it my attention.

[–] eatthecake@lemmy.world -5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So you love rapists. Got it.

[–] hellfire103@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No? I wanted to see Jake Paul get beaten to a pulp.

[–] eatthecake@lemmy.world -1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So you're supporting Mike Tyson the rapist.

[–] discostjohn@programming.dev 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Terrible reading comprehension

[–] radau@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

Chronically online detected: please go outside

[–] Montagge@lemmy.zip 71 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm not watching it because I'm not a mark

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

if Netflix charging extra for the fight?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (2 children)
[–] loutr@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Glad I canceled my subscription then.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world -4 points 6 days ago

Where are you gonna spend your -0 moral dollars?

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

so you either have Netflix or don't, how does watching it if you already have it make you a mark

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Idk, I'm not the person who said it does.

[–] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

Hoooly shit is this happening?!

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 52 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Tbh, Jake has already lost. If he wins, people will say he beat up a 58yo man, former boxer or not. If he loses, he got beat up by a 58yo man.

Like, there's no way he can actually win in the square of public opinion, and I'm here for it.

[–] qaz@lemmy.world 26 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He wins when he gets attention, and he will get that either way

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

100% just like anything to do with Jake Paul, this is about money, and the fact that we are all talking about it really only points to one outcome. He won and we lost.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Pretty sure it's all about the millions of dollars both men will make. If losing is becoming richer by more money than I'll ever see in my life then I'll lose all day long.

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 1 points 6 days ago

Probably, but a bit of wounded pride on top would be good for Jake.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

Pretty sure he lost in the square of public opinion years ago, now he's just capitalizing on it.

[–] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 39 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Even if you're anti-Paul, watching the fight is free press for him. Same as how Trump did it

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

You're right, it should have been pre-election and Trump instead of Paul. Now there's a fight I'd pay to watch

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Watch a pirated stream and don't talk about it and it's fine really.

[–] NegativeLookBehind@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (7 children)

I’m here for both of those things. I only wish it was Mike Tyson in his prime so we could really see a total annihilation of this asswipe.

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's all scripted so it would turn out however they wrote it. Boxing is scripted and every altercation and weigh in fight/drama in boxing and UFC/MMA is set up and fake

Yup, I had the same thought. The slap was just to generate hype. The fight was pretty tame. This was just a money making event.

[–] eatthecake@lemmy.world -5 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 2 points 6 days ago

Dude what is wrong with you?

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Paul wouldn't have challenged Tyson in his prime, his professional career is a sham.

Oh we are definitely the same, friend. I want Jake Paul to look like extra pulp orange juice.
