Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. A showerthought should offer a unique perspective on an ordinary part of life.

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. Avoid politics
    • 3.1) NEW RULE as of 5 Nov 2024, trying it out
    • 3.2) Political posts often end up being circle jerks (not offering unique perspective) or enflaming (too much work for mods).
    • 3.3) Try c/politicaldiscussion, volunteer as a mod here, or start your own community.
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct

Let's say Sunday is NoPo day, for example. I think we'd all be in a better mood that day.

Edit. Yikes. Way too many people taking this too seriously and missing the point.

No, I'm not trying to suppress your free speech.

No, this post is not oppressive of your political views in anyway.

No, this doesn't have any baring whatsoever on what country you're from.

If your response to this shower thought is a four paragraph rage you are already lost. Why are you in showerthoughts?

No, this does not have anything to do with subscriptions or blocking communities.

If you're incapable of light jokes then no, you should not comment.

And finally, no, this is not a serious request post. I can't believe that needs to be explained for half the people here...

Might as well shut down the whole damn site like nickelodeon day of play

On sunday, rfkill/airplane mode, and your internet will be politics free.

I love the idea

"Everything is political."

Missing the point.

What is the point?

[–] vala@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The irony is that this post itself is political.

[–] BluesF@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

On an individual community this could work, sure, but on the whole website you would effectively be closing certain communities entirely.

Love the idea, but good luck. Federation has some downsides, one of them being it will be literally impossible to get consensus on this from all servers.

Just wait a month, you'll be good.

People who complain about “politics” on this platform really show their whole ass by revealing they’re actually just right-wing nutjobs or Russian trolls. So which are you?

I think we should also have an only politics day so we hate it even more. Something like clockwork orange maybe.

This is a joke but it could be interesting.

this is why i like to create lists (on social) or bookmark certain communities instead of subscribing or following so it can easily be put aside when i need a mental health day (which, being trans, is more often than not these days :|)

In your edit where you say that many people take this too seriously, that's you taking it too seriously. Stop being so sensitive. Don't have a hissy fit. We're all just playing around, right?

[–] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I just block the communities and users. Can't rawdog lemmy.

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I use filters on voyager to block whatever annoys me.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Voyager won’t let me add a filter, only remove them.

Turns out there are numerous communities with no political content. One could choose to only read those, on any given day.
