A man died in a kitchen mishap after accidently stabbing himself while trying to separate frozen burgers with a knife, a coroner has concluded.

It took police more than a month after Barry Griffiths died to seal off his flat in Llandrindod Wells after a post-mortem revealed that he died from a stab wound, during which time some evidence had been lost.

An inquest at Pontypridd Coroner's Court on Monday (September 16) heard that the investigation later found that there was no evidence that anyone else was involved in the death of the 57-year-old, whose body was found on July 4, 2023 after concerns were raised that he hadn't been seen for more than a week.

Here's me, assuming I'll die choking on a steak (like Liz Lemon imagines for herself), and now a new fear is unlocked, where I don't even get a meal first.

(Sad news about the guy of course)

Don't ever cut toward yourself and you can avoid this

I'm gonna write this down. Why didn't they teach us this in school instead of all that singing?

Wait they seriously didn't? We got taught in primary school how to handle scissors and then knifes.

I often, stupidly, try and pry frozen meat apart like this. However, I have a range of blunt knives for such purposes.

My ex stabbed herself through the palm of her hand separating frozen burgers. Severed the tendon to her middle finger. She was a chef by profession 🙄

Yep, if you're using a knife as a prybar, it ought to be a butter knife

Nah, my cousin needed stitches after trying to separate frozen burgers with a butter knife years ago.

Put them vertical on a cutting board, and keep your hands out from underneath it.

That kind of thing - I have quite a good thick blade pointy (but not too pointy) knife for splitting apart frozen stuff like chicken breasts (although these days I tend to split a tray up into bags and freeze them) but if it's as simple as a burger a butter knife should suffice.

Well that sucks.
Also, put parchment paper between portions instead.

Sometimes they come frozen, with inadequate slips of paper between that got damp enough before freezing to freeze together. And also rip when you try to peel them off after separating. But you are right, 2 pieces of parchment paper works better if doing your own.
