Only tangentially ended up learning about Haitian food before but if my memory serves rice and vegetables are a massive staple in the common Haitian diet. I'd wager that's some damn fine rice.

It all looks delicious. I'd eat any of the non-fish items (I like crustaceans, but I'm not a fan of most fish, especially oily fish).

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I specifically pointed out the rice because it looks vegan; wasn't sure about the other dishes but yea they all look pretty good

There might be some form of a animal fat, it's not uncommon to saute rice before simmering in liquid, and extremely common for that liquid to be stock. My money is on a seasoned stock for that color.

Odd. Thought they grabbed dogs like Saturn eating his son.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The huge industrial dog farming operations in Haiti are a sad sight to see.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

I saw a video on one, too graphic to link.

It was a really ruff watch.

[–] refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Pfft. Planets don't have mouths.

As evidenced by Shoemaker Levy 9 though, gas giants are certainly capable of swallowing other large astronomical bodies that get too close.

Turns out, they DON'T have that dog in them

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I guess they must not feel like that and they don't chase the cat.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It was nice of them to resurrect the cat as a zombie and put it back in that lady's house like it had never been gone!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's what you think. The truth is that Ms. Sassy framed the lady. She hid in the basement with a burner phone and hacked into the lady's Facebook account to accuse Haitians of eating her.

And that's why she was named Ms. Sassy.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ph shit, I checked and it is real!

American conservatives are still malding out because they don't think black migrants should be allowed access to food.

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

I used to live across the street from a Haitian restaurant.

Bro, you are genuinely missing out. Fuckin find a place it's fire.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This seems like a golden opportunity for Haitians to share their favourite recipes. Haitian food isn't as well known as Jamaican food or Cuban food, but I bet there are some really delicious things. I wonder if there's still any French influence.

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

[–] TammyTobacco@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gross. Tobasco? Get that shit out of here. Food looks good though.

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Haitian hot sauce tends to be pretty fucking spicy. I suspect that's there for people who don't want that level of heat.

[–] TammyTobacco@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'd take any hot sauce over tobasco.

[–] forrcaho@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

This is the obvious response to the terrorism-inducing Republican meme. A recipe with a mount-watering picture in response to every regurgitation of that reprehensible lie would have been awesome. A bit late for that now, I think it's dying down ...
