It's most likely from 1984 because it's an episode mostly about the Olympics. Donkey Kong debuted in 1982 and that would probably have been too early to feature it on the show in time and 1986 would have been a little late for Donkey Kong.

That said, 1982 is definitely a possibility. Or even a different year if they decided to do an Olympics episode in an off-year. Unfortunately, the website regarding the episode doesn't say.

Edit: Thanks to rrconkle@lemmy.zip for getting the year right!

I forgot about that! I wonder if that line was because of the Mr. Rogers thing?

The two people in the background remind me of the main characters from Community, so it might be from that.

[–] Tyfud@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Correct. That's also the "Anus" flag that they created for the college.

Cool. Cool. Cool. Cool.

The Yahoo season of Community (the sixth and final season.) He played a guy (if I remember this right, it's been a while) who invented a bunch of stuff but all of his inventions got stolen. They all thought he was bullshitting at first, but then it all turns out to be true.

A Traveller you say?

It would have been bonkers if that was actually Will Weaton.

Too young, though.

Kieth David in They Live is a fuckin masterpiece. His 15 hour Battle Royale with Rowdy Roddy Piper is something that should be on everyone's must see list.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

That's a great movie.

Do you know that it's based (in part) on a very short comic?

http://sapcomics.blogspot.com/2012/01/nada.html

It's based on a short story by the author of the comic as well, but it takes elements from both.

I like him in pretty much anything. I even enjoyed him in the shitty final season of Community Yahoo did when they tried and failed with doing TV shows (I will never forgive them for not letting someone else continue on with Other Space).

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The final season actually held up for me on rewatch. I remember peacing out at the second or third show when it came out, and was pleasantly surprised it did not suck on rewatch.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I would have to watch it again, but at the time, it felt like it was going through the motions more than anything.

Better than the season Harmon wasn't involved with though.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I mean - yes. But - even that one was kinda fun in retrospect. Less “soul” but still the people and some good writing. It’s not necessary to skip it, is all I’m saying.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wouldn't skip any of it if I rewatched it. Also, theoretically the movie is going to be shooting soon. They apparently are just trying to work around Donald Glover's schedule. He apparently will be returning in a major way in the movie!

So there really will be six seasons and a movie.

As the prophecy foretold!

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

Holy shit - he was in Requiem for a Dream? Damn, did not expect that.

I was gonna say a Mr Rogers and Keith David team up is the update to Arby and The Chief that i never knew i needed.

[–] satanmat@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The summer and winter games were held in the same year at that time. So I’d go with maybe very late 83-84

:-)

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Really? How did that happen? Or was that the tradition until more recently? I was only a little older than the age of Mr. Rogers' audience in 1984.

Also, I think it's funny that either way, Keith David definitely was on Mr. Rogers after being in The Thing.

[–] satanmat@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yep had to check wiki. 92 was the last year they were together, then they held the winter games in 94, and then every 4 years since… 94, 98, 2002….

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I was old enough in 1992 that I should have remembered that. Oh well. Memory fades with time.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

TBF it’s the Olympics. What, are you some kinda jock-nerd? Of course not. ;)

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

True. Just the nerd kind of nerd.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

There's something wild about Mr. Rogers being in proximity to a video game.
