Looks to be a critique of the US’s outward perspective on politics. The character at center frame appears to be gender norm nonconforming, with lipstick, lashes, and stubble. They’re smoking and exhausted, peering at their phone which hosts the Ukrainian flag and a verified Palestinian account. Despite their exhaustion, they still offer a faint smile, indicating dissociation. The little angry or sad guy on the left drinking blood through a straw gives me pause, but death looming over the democracy banner seems on the nose. It seemed transphobic at first glance. Not sure whether it’s intended to be so I erred on the side of caution.
The author mixes interpersonal relationships into their art.
The title of the post isThis post is also from pmjv, where they also add Garfield.
The other user has been posting modified ring wing Garfield comics for a while.
These are all from qrstuv
@Gullible@sh.itjust.works I accidentally pressed reply before I finished writing my reply, but I edited and fixed it now if you saw the deleted message.
I appreciate the thought and explanation! (I’m mostly replying to this because there seems to be a bug on SJW that prevents me from interacting with your comment from the notifications panel, leaving me with an undismissable notification)
I take it you're not a big Jean-Luc Godard fan, seeing you failed to recognize the famous quote.
I don’t think I pass the vibe check either
I feel even more confused, having now learned that the creator of this comic/card seems to have made a habit of poking fun at the creator of this community since its creation. So few people had seen this community at the time that the effort to reward ratio started out unreasonably, immeasurably high. Considering that and the fact that the mod here has a drawing tablet, but rarely if ever posts their own art, I have to wonder whether both the artist and mod are the same person.
I didn't personally think so because SDF is a unix related non-profit that started at the end of the 80s. I think it's normal for people to choose irrational seeming behaviour when it has personal importance to themselves and possibly other members they know in a community. On the Mastodon instance, they also have a quote from Eugen Rochko
That makes sense, yeah. What an utterly bizarre situation. Reminds me of irc feuds, but far more public.
We also feud on IRC.
I have never poked fun at any one person, unless it was Bryan Lunduke, but he purposely hurt my feelings, so my reaction was justified, or so I tell myself. Helps me sleep at night. I make Fun content.
@pmjv@lemmy.sdf.org has a drawing tablet. @qrstuv@lemmy.sdf.org has a drawing tablet.
It's not a bad theory, but I do not know that man.
That rooster better hurry and crow
The color palette is a reference to the method Piatnik (a card making company) was using to make Gypsy/Divination cards in the 1850s using screen printing. There were usually no more than 3 layers of color over which the black outline was finally printed ( + the color of the material of the paper). See example:
For the sake of creative liberties, you can see that while I did not resort to using just 3 colors, the divination content series does use same the color scheme.
To really make the palette reference visible, it would be a good idea to make a compilation post at some point. Maybe after 12 cards, if you decide to pull all of them together into a single image, or 13 as a reference to tarot. They’re quite good, and deserve to be beheld in their full glory.
Careful what you wish for. Eyelashes may suggest an anti-transgender agenda.
To quote the man I do not know: "ars delenda est".
It’s decent art with a significant number of confusing elements that I simply cannot parse, hence my saying so. Cogito hoc, ergo dico hoc. No offense meant.
If I see him, I'll let him know.
