How'd some people get stranded in space? (lemm.ee)

Somehow I missed what out of this world happened to result in some people stranded in space, and I thought it'd be fun/interesting to see how others describe what led to it.

Boeing cut a bunch of corners on safety and oversight so the executives could have a few more million in their bank accounts and they rolled out a space capsule that leaks and doesn’t work well enough for NASA to trust it.

Also people died on their planes for the same reason and they allegedly killed a whistleblower who was warning everyone about it. So. Y’know. Sort of a long series of faceplants in the service of corporate greed.
