  • Be careful, this is a very disturbing movie
  • Make sure you watch the uncut version, some important scenes were cut from the first US release
  • Steve Buscemi named this film one of his favorite, this movie inspired Quentin Tarantino to write Natural Born Killers. More about its legacy on wiki

The uncut version is on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXjQCjNZeME

It's a bit hard to describe but I felt like both had moments of spiraling confusion with the protagonist watching their worlds fall apart around them that I found really captivating.

I'm trying to think of other examples but The Fall and The Father are ones that came to mind. They are both fantastic films I'd highly recommend.

frefi@lemmy.dbzer0.com mentioned mother! (2017) which was the other example that was on the tip of my tongue.

A very beautiful movie, a lot of mystery regarding the main character and his journey, but lovely movie and cinematic.
It can be difficult to follow, but you will realize that everything is connected. I personally had to re-watch it, because the first time left me with questions.

Some people will find this boring, but its not IMO.

I recommend this movie to everyone, I think it really talks about what makes us human. Good performances, good score and the sci-fi world of the movie feels too real and not as far as it seems to our reality. It was really underappreciated when it came out, so if you haven't seen it now is the time to make you a favor!

This has a few caveats, you need to know what you're getting into.

This is a low-budget movie about homelessness in Winnipeg (Canada), in the 1990s. It's a "slice of life" movie, meaning that it's not about a tightly written story, but about trying to get a view into the lives of these characters.

It's about the bitter irony of being homeless and trying to sell a heater in order to survive while trying to not freeze.
It's not exciting, but it is my favourite holiday movie.

I recently watched The International (2009) by Tom Tykwer and absolutely loved the atmosphere of the movie. Dark, cold, stylish, great locations. Can you guys recommend something with a similar vibe?

Films about slavery usually focus on the victims themselves, which is understandable.

Instead, I'm looking for movies (or TV series) which depict abolitionists at the time of widespread and normalised human slavery in society, and the rise of the abolitionist movement. That is, I want to see anti-slavery activists and how they eventually overtook society and transformed from a minority into the majority of people agreeing with them.

I'm interested in showing abolitionists in general but specifically in showing the growth of the abolitionism movement from being a vocal minority seemingly hated by most people, to the majority view in society. (Truly it would have to cover hundreds of years to show this complete, slow transition of society turning against slavery.)

I believe animal rights activists today might benefit from seeing the perspectives of people campaigning to end human slavery despite most of society being against them, and be inspired by how they eventually convinced everyone to reject slavery, as animal rights activists attempt to convince everyone to reject animal exploitation in modern day.

Hi all, I’m currently the only mod here and I’ve sadly had to be less active given sizable real life responsibilities, so posting here to see if anyone is up for assisting in mod management?

If anyone’s interested just comment below and I can get things approved from there. Preferably say any experience you have if applicable.

A television network cynically exploits a deranged former anchor's ravings and revelations about the news media for its own profit, but finds that his message may be difficult to control.
