I recently lost my old BSA mess kit. They really don't make them like they used to anymore, closest one that looks like it is the Coleman 5 piece nested aluminum set. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. I want something small and compact like this that has a small metal pot, pan, cup.

My exped Synmat ul is starting to delaminate. It's only a little bit yet, but that little bit is getting bigger, so i guess i will have to buy a new mat in the not so distant future, hope it will hold up for my current trip.

Any recommendations for a light, small packing isolated (i think mine has r 2.9 which is enough for me) and kind of silent mat? Long term usage recommendations welcome.

Mueller River Campground has 5 vehicle-accessible sites, 3 pedestrian-access sites. Each site has access to the inlet beach for canoeing, fishing and swimming.

The nearby Thurra River Campground is not currently accessible due to fires and floods taking out the bridge.

Went from MN to Indiana to visit family on the maiden voyage. Went to Racoon Lake and then Brown County State Park. Learning along the way...awning and how to work the fridge being the main issues. So much fun though! Can't wait for another trip.

Just wanted to share my excitement for my first solo camping trip of the year! My family and I go camping as often as we can in the summer months in the Midwest. I always take at least one solo trip. It's nice to get out on your own, at your own pace and decompress from family life and work.

Our family bought or first popup this week after being an exclusive tent family. 2005 Rockwood, in excellent condition.

Previous owners were crying as we pulled out of the driveway.

We'll be using this on any vacation we go on, typically we go to National Parks and rent AirBNB in the area. This will pay for itself after a couple of uses.

Fortunately everything was safe. We just barely managed to collect all our things from outside (apart from the jug, which we left on purpose), and the tent took absolutely no water inside.

The North Cascades is just perfect this time of year. No smoke, no fires, lots of beauty.

Was my favorite camp spot yet on my current bicycle trip. The mountain ridge is a border between switzerland and italy, at about 1500m altitude. The building next to me is an old monastery. This was last thursday, i then rolled down to the como lake that morning.

I camp in a travel trailer, and have done 2 road trips so far with the hubby. First trip was Savannah>St. Augustine>Charleston. We were short on choice in Savannah and stuck with a KOA sandwiched between Hwy 17 and 95. It... was a safe place to park and the showers were decent, I'll give it that. The campground in St Augustine was out on the barrier islands and just a whole old Florida vibe (North Beach Camp Resort). I loved the privacy between spots, and the 2 restaurants within waking distance. Not cheap, and not normally our thing, but it was our anniversary. On our way back north we stopped in Charleston at a city park that had a campground (James Island County Park) . It was perfect y'all. Affordable, in/out privileges with a gate code after hours, a lake and a water park on site, wooded campsites with full hookups, and didn't feel crowded even though it was relatively full.

Our second road trip was to a music festival that took us through West Virginia. We stayed in a couple of state parks passing through, and I definitely want to go back in the fall. WV just has beautiful parks, and I got a good dose of "felt like home" even though I'm from southwestern VA.

Being on the east coast, I wish we had more prevalent places to boondock such as BLM land. Sure we've got logging roads in National Forests, but there is also a lot of privately owned property peppered through the forests I'm familiar with, and I'm nervous I'm going to piss someone off by trespassing.

So where all have you been this season? Hit me with ideas!

One of the first books I remember enjoying as a kid was Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I grew up out in the country, and spent a lot of time exploring and playing in the woods. Hatchet was the perfect book for a kid my age who was beginning to fall in love with the outdoors.

It occurred to me recently that I really haven't read anything like that as an adult, even though I still have a great love for, and interest in, the outdoors. Are there any novels you can recommend that are set in the wilderness? Specifically, novels with themes of survival and/or exploration?

Campfire cooking is one of my favorite parts of camping. Here's a few of my favorites:

Kabobs with chicken, zucchini peppers,onion,mushrooms

Corn on the cob - I cook them in the husk after a soak in water. They come out a little charred and taste amazing.

Potatoes, garlic and onions sealed in heavy foil with too much butter. I throw it right on hot coals for a long time.

After what was probably between 20 and 40 years of my Scout troop not cleaning their stoves, I decided to have a go at one of them. To put things simply, this is the result. I probably messed up, the degreaser was supposed to be completely biodegradable/paint safe, so I don't know if this is the result of the serious grease buildup (there was a disgusting amount) or my own stupidity. Either way, I have two options. Tossing it and replacing it, or attempting to refinish it. I read online about refinishing them and a I got the impression that I could just strip it down and use a heat resistant/rust resistant paint. Obviously it wouldn't be as good as the powder coating, but my question is if it would work at all? If so, where can I find some paint online? Everywhere I looked either has super pricey paint or the wrong color, which I suppose I could resort to if needed.

Any and all comments appreciated! Even if it's just to tell me I'm an idiot!
