People are very excited for this game and I can see why. It fills the Bloodborne-shaped hole in many people's Bloodborne-shaped heart.

Psychonauts was always one of those games I was meaning to play ever since it came out. I've played most of the double fine titles but I started it and it didn't instantly click so I put it down and never got back to it. The second one came out and I thought alright time to go for it. Wow! What a debut from double fine! Clever and fun mechanics, well defined characters, engaging story and actually laugh out loud moments! If you have kids the game dialogue is snappy like a Pixar movie. I made it to the tower and just can't wait to see what happens next. There are a few small things like camera angles or controls that can be a little frustrating after all it's almost a 20 year old game but if do yourself a favor and grab it for $2 on steam or Xbox store right now if you think you might like it. I've already got #2 in the queue.

Up until now I was using an XBOX One controller with a clip for attaching your phone, which worked well but was quite unergonomic. I had to keep my wrists in an awkward angle, which made my fingers go numb after a short amount of time.

Now I got me the Gamesir X2 Pro and I couldn't be happier. The Switch form factor is SO MUCH MORE ergonomic and with the USB C connection there's no latency at all. It's finally fun to play emulators on the phone (or to stream from my gaming PC).

The buttons are rather clicky, so the acustics can get a little annoying, but haptically they feel great. The build quaility is pretty satisfying all around.

Totally recommended if you're into phone gaming.

There are so many amazing indie games out there, but some of them stand out as must-play experiences. What are your favorite indie games of all time?

I actually have an Xbox Series X but I want to be able to play games from my Deck while in bed. How is the lag and performance?

Any long-form content that relaxes you. Mine are Pikasprey's Pokemon videos and Wickedy's Stardew Valley let's plays. Also vinesauce.

Frost Giant (Stormgate's developer) released this gameplay footage on Sunday. I'm liking the visuals and the new "siege tank" unit has some potential to improve on SC2's, thoughts?

Copying this from another comment

TL;DR: This is not a DLC. This is Cyberpunk 2.0.

• virtually every system of the main game has been changed and/or updated • police system is completely reworked with multiple tiers of NCPD/mercs chasing you down in vehicles according to your wanted level, apparently on level 5 maxtac will chase you down and it will be some sort of bossfight against them (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riK1i8lQwRM&t=511s) • perks and skills have been completely overhauled, no longer simple passive stat boosts, much more active abilities like different melee finishers, a dash, or the ability to deflect bullets with melee weapons • the difficulty curve is reworked/rebalanced • the loot tiers are reworked • archetypes of enemies have been redone for more variety in combat encounters • an entirely new 6th skill tree that uses a different type of skill points (relic points) that will be used to add new abilities to your cyberware • installing cyberware now has an effect on your body and you cant install too much or else you will go cyberpsycho (no idea what that looks like in game) • installing cyberware now has a first person cutscene added to it, just like in the prologue at Vik’s clinic • you can now “attune” cyberware to one of your attributes, making it more efficient if you have invested in that attribute; example here optical camo is attuned to the “cool” attribute: https://i.imgur.com/1UI9SEX.png • armor is no longer tied to clothing, it instead tied to your cybernetics • vehicle combat is added to the game, you can even use your katana on your bike • vehicles are no longer bought from fixers, but bought through a website set up by mama welles • some vehicles have guns installed on them (machine guns, rocket launchers) • new type of infinitely replayable/repeatable missions are being added where you need to steal certain vehicles marked on your map • new activity introduced “airdrops”, loot caches that drop randomly on the map that you can fight over and retrieve for yourself • tons of new random events/activities are added to make the world feel more alive, like car chases and gang fights

I just typed out a few notes during the showcase so I will put them here for discussion.

  • There are over 1000 world. These are procedurally generated but have handcrafted content placed randomly on them.
  • Every you see exists and all planetary objects can be visited.
  • Illumination is changing based on the atmosphere and the sun type/proximity.
  • Animation system and combat system has been reworked from the ground up.
  • You can play in 1st or 3rd person.
  • Resources exist and are collectable
  • You can find enemy camps on planets and/or other random things/locations.
  • You can fast travel to your ship.
  • You can have companions that aid you on the ship or on ground.
  • Visual style for the tech was called by devs as Nasa-Punk as in advanced but worn
  • You can choose landing spots on a planet or fast travel to an existing one.
  • You jump drive to other systems and can upgrade drive for longer jumps.
  • New Atlantis is the biggest city Bethesda ever created. There are more cities:
  • Akila city: Western style. Looked like RDR2.
  • Cydonia city: Mining city built for resources.
  • Neon: Known as Pleasure city. Cyberpunk style.
  • There is a mythical group called Constellation. They are the last explorers of humanity and are looking for answers to long lasting humanity's questions. Your main story revolves around them I think.
  • Character creation is vastly improved and it's extensive. Mocap used for the making.
  • You choose one of 40 (employee) presets and then put more details from there.
  • You choose your background and skills. Chef was an example. Your skills affect interactions in the game.
  • You can have up to 3 traits and each has pros and cons.
  • You get 1 skill per level and you can rank up skills.
  • 5 skill trees with 4 ranks per skill. Jetpack, mind-control and Neurostrikes(heavy strikes) shown. Great build diversity.
  • They studied data from NASA to strike balance between realism and fun.
  • There is dogfighting in space
  • Ships are highly customizable and upgradable down to rearranging modules around.
  • Can hire crew members with different skills
  • Ship has a power allocation system(think of an Equalizer style thingie). You can reallocate power according to situation. Shields and weapons for combat or engine for escaping, etc.
  • There's a trait that lets you target specific subsystems on an enemy ship.
  • You can destroy ships and loot them or board them and capture them for your fleet.
  • You can commit piracy on friendly ships.
  • You can build a outpost and produce resources from animals.
  • You can build outposts, assign companions to them and keep producing resources. You can decorate outposts and live there.
  • Guns are highly customizable down to type of ammo. Melee weapons exist. Miniguns shown.
  • Gravity changes with each planet.
  • Firing in 0g can push you back.
  • Photo mode exists.

Please feel free to add any details I missed.

edit: Here is the full showcase(45 minutes) for people who want to watch it.

  • 60 fps and 16:9 options
  • built-in randomizer
  • loads of quality of live improvements (boots can put on buttons, put items on d-pad)
  • based on the OoT decompilation effort, so almost perfectly bug-compatible with the original

I recently beat the first boss and am having a good time so far. I find the dodge a bit clunky, but it seems like the game is trying to push you more towards blocking (and perfect blocking).

Overall, I love the fact that a demo for this game exists and that it feels quite polished!

I got a quick update tonight and now I'm crashing about every 5 min. It usually happens when a transition is happening - opening a map, teleporting, etc. Am I the only one?

I'm on V1.0.2.42338

I saw a post here (https://lemmy.ml/post/1179679) about some Chinese kid spending USD 64k on video games and I read the news article and found myself down a rabbit hole.

https://www.techspot.com/news/98980-13-year-old-spent-64000-parents-money-mobile.html

China has long held a dim view of video games, calling them "electronic drugs" a few years ago. It only allows those under 18 to play online games for one hour, between 8 pm and 9 pm local time, on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

So basicaly, this article says that China (or more accurately the Chinese government) has a dim view of video games.

So I kept digging and found this article:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/30/business/media/china-online-games.html

“I think this is the right policy,” she said. “It amounts to the state taking care of our kids for us.”

This phrase just screams "BAD PARENT" to me.

Why do you have to offload the responsibility of caring for your children to the government? You chose to bring them into the world, now you're responsible for them.

Which brings me to my question... why does China's government hate video games so much? Why would they want to impose such draconian restrictions on childrens' free time?

A lot of game specific subreddits post update announcements, which were how I heard about stuff like that before I switched to Lemmy. On here, there's not enough people yet for communities like that, so I'm looking to see how many people would be interested in a community that collects and shares news about game updates
